Ver-Mac’s Smart Work Zone technology used in Arizona to shorten commute times through construction zones.

Maricopa County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) in Arizona is using Ver-Mac’s Smart Work Zone technology to shorten commute times through construction zones.

MCDOT goal is to use smart technology to protect those working on roadways. Last year there were 799 fatalities in work zones. 132 of those were roadside workers.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Sensors gather information about work zone conditions. This information is then processed by our JamLogic software which calculates travel times and can also display messages on Portable Changeable Message Signs to let drivers know about possible delays and alternate route to avoid the delay. This reduces the number of vehicles actually going through the work zone making it quicker and safer.

Smart Work Zones are all about improving Safety & Mobility.

Using Ver-Mac’s Smart Work Zone technology also has the added benefit of helping out on high pollution days as reduced traffic and quicker travel times mean less idling and thus fewer emissions.

MCDOT is piloting the Smarter Work Zone with an average daily traffic on this road is 20,000 cars per day.
