Ver-Mac is always striving to make the most of technology to improve road safety. Our in-house R & D team is made up of passionate mechanical, hardware and software engineers who are constantly working on pushing our product lines to the next level and creating new, cutting-edge equipment. Let’s take a look at their innovations.
Our JamLogic fleet management software allows users to manage their equipment remotely, all from one platform. JamLogic for smart work zones helps improve traffic flow before it reaches a work zone with automated messages.
Our Connected Work Zone Notification System concept allows you to turn your work zone into a connected work zone that sends real-time information. Motorists can know if they are approaching a work zone, what the reduced speed limit is, and which lanes are closed via Waze and other navigation systems. Departments of Transportation and other relevant parties can receive work zone data in the Work Zone Data Exchange format.
So, what is the Work Zone Data Exchange (WZDx)? It’s a data-sharing standard. A vocabulary and format in which work zone data it collected and published. Data is gathered from Ver-Mac units in WZDx format and pushed to a standard data feed. This feed is made available to relevant third parties such as DOTs, connected autonomous vehicles, and automated navigation systems. The WZDx aims to improve road safety by providing standardized, quality information.
Ver-Mac is proud to have played an active role in defining the standard, and our connected equipment is all Work Zone Data Exchange-compliant, collecting data in a format that is ready to push to the feed.
Innovations launched by our team include Ver-Mac's Nightbrite technology for solar light towers, which provides 40% more brightness, using the same power consumption, than to other solar light tower systems. Our Speed Wizard is the first product of the industry to combine a work zone digital speed limit sign and a speed awareness feedback sign on the same platform. Our Universal Smart Arrow Board Retrofit kit can turn any arrow board into a smart arrow board that can be managed remotely and collect data.
We are thrilled to have received an Innovation Award at ATSSA 2022. Our Speed Wizard won third place among 14 nominated Canadian and American products. A panel of DOT judges evaluated the products according to the following criteria: lifesaving qualities, degree of need, innovation, design and eligibility under the Highway Safety Innovation Program.
Receiving this award further reinforces Ver-Mac’s position as an innovative company, which has won its second award in five years. Indeed, our Smart Arrow Board won the same award in 2019. We’ve also been honoured to receive awards from various ministers of Transportation over the years.
