When Vernal McBain and his two sons founded Ver-Mac Inc. in 1955, North America was at the dawn of a whole new age. Prosperity was pushing skyscrapers higher, extending cities outwards, and creating new opportunities. Ver-Mac became a part of this success as a drill equipment conversion shop supplying the construction industry.

In 1963, Vernal’s son Raymond founded Ray-Mac Inc., which rented heavy equipment and steel barricades for construction work areas. This marked a first foray into the signalling and safety end of the road construction business.

Raymond merged the two companies in 1965, focusing exclusively on technologically advanced construction signalling equipment such as electronic arrows. In 1995, Raymond's daughter Sandra-Lee together with her husband Whitney Richardson became the third generation owners.

With the advent of Ver-Mac’s portable changeable message boards in 1995, sales quickly accelerated and the company’s reputation for quality and value travelled throughout the highway construction industry in North America.
